Carrig is a progressive company and is constantly evolving. It is often a difficult position to be in when many developers’s first option tends to be one of ‘demolish the old and in with the new’. On many occasions, the loss of historic buildings is unnecessary and unsustainable. HJP Carrig Properties was set up with a vision to find protected or historic properties that are under threat of demolition and to purchase these properties with a view to sustainable development that is attractive to an end user and at the same time, make commercial profitable sense.

The first property was bought in 2007. A convent situated in Mohil, Co. Leitrim. The site encompasses the large convent, a chapel and landscaped grounds. The elevated position gives a tremendous view over the countryside. The property features many wonderful assets such as high ceilings, original cast iron fireplaces, decorative cornices and original iron and clay floor tiles. The convent in order to find a ‘new life, generously lends itself to be restored into spacious apartments. The side chapel with its great wooden trusses gives rise to a commercial airy office space. The plots to the rear and side allow for addition structures to be built in order to achieve the necessary financial stacking. These two proposed structures have been designed to a) compliment the main elevation to the road and surrounding setting and b) make use of modern day contemporary designs and materials.

The project has just received planning and has just been launched for re-sale. We have no doubt that the property will receive significant interest despite a difficult current property market as the design, extent of sound original fabric will ensure a quick turn-around for an opportune builder/developer.
